    Background: British Olympic horses filled the first three places in the Pembroke stakes judged on time and fault Aug 2 - opening day of the Dublin Horse Show. Twenty-nine riders from Britain, Argentina, Denmark and Ireland contested this competition.

    First, Miss Pat Smythe on Flanagan,; second, David Broome on Sunsalve; Third, David Broome on Wildfire.

    Earlier came the traditional parade in the ring of some 800 horses - show steeds, hunters of Irish stock, heavyweights, middleweights, lightweights and geldings and fillies.

    The Horse show brings festivity the city. Hotels and boarding houses are packed - mainly with British and American visitors. Nine grand balls and champagne until 2 in the morning are among the engagements of the show fraternity.
