    GENERAL HAFEZ SPOKE TO HUGE CROWDS AT A DEMONSTRATION IN DAMASCUS WHICH PROTESTED AGAINST BRITISH POLICIES IN ADEN AND PROTECTORATES.

    GENERAL HAFEZ CHEERING CROWDS GATHERED AT ABU-RAMANNEH SQUARE IN DAMASCUS THAT THE SYRIAN GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE WERE PREPARED TO PROVIDE MATERIAL AND MORAL AID "FOR WHAT HE CALLED "FREE ARABS" IN ADEN.

    HE SAID: "THE MASSES NOW FIN D THEMSELVES MOBILISED IN A BATTLE OF DESTINY AGAINST IMPERIALISM. THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR ANY ARAB GOVERNMENT DELAYING COLLECTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE BATTLE."
    DEMONSTRATORS IN THE EARLIER PROCESSION SENT CABLES TO UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY-GENERAL U THANT, THE ARAB LEAGUE AND THE ADEN TRADES UNION CONGRESS, CONDEMNING ALLEGED "BRUTAL ACTS COMMITTED BY BRITISH IMPERIALISM IN ADEN."
    THE CABLES URGED "SPEEDY AND DECISIVE INTERVENTION TO STOP THESE MASSACRES, " AN EARLY REFERENDUM UNDER THE AUSPICES OF A NEUTRAL INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE, ABOLITION OF THE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN ADEN, AND THE RELEASE OF DETAINEES.
