Celtic, the European Cup winners, and London team Tottenham Hotspurs had a 3-3 draw in their first match of the soccer season in London today. Tottenham Hotspurs, holders of the Football Association Cup, took the lead from Celtic in the closing stages of the game, but could not hold it.
One commentator described the match between the two premier British teams as a "rousing, breathtaking battle of the giants." World famous player Jimmy Greaves scored the first goal for Spurs within the opening 30 seconds of the game, when he intercepted a Celtic pass.
Celtic evenned the score when veteran player Bertie Auld hit a fierce shot in from 25 yards out. Auld then put Celtic in the lead, after 26 minutes of play, when he slammed a shot home under the goal-keeper's nose.
Then Spurs drew level, and eventually took the lead at 3-2, with another goal for Jimmy Greaves.
Celtic levelled again only minutes before the full-time bell. The Scottish team pressed hard but could not break Tottenham Hotspur's defence.
