  • Description

The Papal Legate, Cardinal Lawrence Joseph Shehan, of Baltimore, witnessed an unusual portrayal of "The Last Supper" at a Roman Catholic Eucharistic Congress in Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday (24 February).

About 100 Australian aborigines danced and chanted their version of the lat supper of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion, at an open-air mass.

Cardinal Shehan took part in the first aboriginal mass, using an aboriginal food and water carrier as a chalice during the ceremony at Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

The Congress ended with a ceremony at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday (25 February.)
