Reutemann's copybook driving gave him the race after most of his rivals were forced to retire. Only nine of the twenty-four starters. Survived to finish the race.
The Reutemann Brabham car was 1 minute 37 seconds clear of Jacques Laffite's Frank Williams-Ford, with Austrian Niki Lauda filling third place in his Ferrari ... a further 45 seconds away.
Lauda led the field for more than two-thirds of the race before a puncture forced him to surrender the lead to Reutemann. Several other cars also suffered from punctures.
However, the Austrian's third placing was enough to keep him at the top of the driver's table. Reutemann heads the rest of the field, some seventeen points behind.
The only real drama of the race came after the finish when Welshman Tom Pryce, driving a French Shadow, had to leap from his cock-pit after a petrol leak. Pryce was later taken to hospital and treated for minor burns, caused by the scalding petrol. He officially finished fourth.

The favourite for the race was Austrian Niki Lauda in his Ferrari. He's the current leader in the World Drivers' Championship.
Clay Regazzoni made his mark on the race. He set a new lap record in the early stages.
Welshman Tom Pryce overcome several mishaps to finish the race in fourth place.
Italian driver Lella Lombardi was one of only nine drivers to complete the full number of laps, but she was unplaced.
The start was free from incident, and Lauda took full advantage of his pole position to roar into the lead.
As the field settled Lauda led from Frenchman Patrick Depailler, Brazilian Carlos Pace, then Carlos Reutemann and Clay Regazzoni.
West German Jochen Mass was the first to retire when he spun off the circuit after the first lap. Current World Champion, Emerson Fittipaldi was a fourth lap casualty with suspension trouble. By the fifth lap Sweden's Ronnie Peterson and Carlos Pace were also out of the race.
At the halfway stage, Lauda was still leading Depailler with eventual winner Reutemann back in fourth place.
After Depailler was out with a puncture, the stage looked set for another Ferrari clean sweep with Lauda leading his team mate Clay Regazzoni. But Regazzoni dropped out just one lap later, leaving Lauda in front of the two British drivers, James Hunt and Tom Pryce. Then the puncture plague struck Lauda and he was forced to make a nineteen second pit stop.
Lauda re-entered the race in fourth place, but his chances of winning were extremely remote. By this stage Reutemann had blistered to a lead of almost a minute. He had increased that by another thirty-seven seconds at the finish.
Laffite hung on to fill second place, with Lauda gaining third points in a truly courageous performance. After the race officials issued a statement blaming stones on the track for seven retirements caused by punctures. Carlos Reutemann's victory moved him into second place victory moved him into second place on the Drivers' Championship table ... still seventeen behind Niki Lauda.
