  • Description

The Apollo 15 astronauts - David Scott, James Irwin and Alfred Worden - were driven through some man-made canyons on Tuesday (24th August) as guests of honour for a New York ticket-tape parade. The astronauts were greeted by hundreds of thousands of people along Fifth Avenue as they rode in an open car shared by Mayor John Lindsay. Ticker-tape and streamers rained down on the motorcade - a traditional honour bestowed on the nation's heroes.

The astronauts, having completed the bulk of their extensive debriefing sessions, are presently on a tour of major American cities. At a National Press Club luncheon in Washington on Monday, David Scott said he looked forward to U.S. - Soviet co-operation in space exploration.

This film was telerecorded from a joint VISNEWS - N.B.C. satellite from New York.
