    Swimming...and the third day of the East German Swimming Championships at East Berlin's Friesen Stadium produced yet another world record on Monday (3 July) in the 100-metres butterfly evert, with Andrea Pollack taking the honours. On Sunday (2 July) Barbara Krause won the 200-metres freestyle in a record time f one minute, 59.04 seconds.

    SYNOPSIS: As part of the Olympic team that walked away with 11 of a possible 13 gold medals in the 1976 Montreal Games, East Germany's Andrea Pollack, swimming here in the fourth lane, was a double Olympic champion. She won the med??? relay and the 200-metres butterfly. She is now the holder of the world record in the latter event with a time of 2 minutes 11.20 seconds.

    In this, the 100 metres butterfly event, to select the East German team to take part in the World Championships in West Germany next month, she took an early lead and set another world record... 59.46 seconds. Christiane Knacke and Anett Fieberg took second and third places.

    Ramona Reinke, in the fourth lane in this 200-metres breast-stroke event, had earlier gone ahead in the 100-metres race and won in one minute 12.89 seconds. Sylvia Rinka in lane rive and Marion Rosche in lane six came second and third
    Some 300 swimmers from throughout East Germany are taking part in the five-day competition, but all eyes are on the world swimming championships and whether the East German team will have another all-round success as they did at the Montreal Olympics. The East German women are in superb form. Ramona Reinke here took firs place with a time of 2 minutes, 37.33 seconds.
