    THE BRITISH AIRCRAFT CARRIED VICTORIOUS WAS RECOMMISSIONED AT PORTSMOUTH NAVAL DOCK IN SOUTHERN ENGLAND TODAY (THURSDAY). SHE SURVIVED A JAPANESE KAMIKAZE ATTACK IN THE PACIFIC DURING WORLD WAR TWO.

    THE VICTORIOUS IS THE FOURTH ROYAL NAVY SHIP TO BEAR THE NAME. SHE IS ONE OF THREE BRITISH AIRCRAFT CARRIERS FITTED WITH RADAR DETECTION SYSTEMS. THESE ENABLE THEM TO "FEEL" INTO THE SKIES FURTHER AND MORE ACCURATELY THAN ANY OTHER SHIPS IN THE WORLD.

    HER MASTER IS CAPTAIN D. L. DAVENPORT WHOSE WIFE TOOK PART IN THE RECOMMISSIONING SERVICE. THE SHIP WILL HAVE A SPELL OF DUTY IN THE FAR EAST.
