TRANSCRIPT SEQ 3: REPORTER: "Mrs. Brodrick, how do you feel?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "I feel absolutely wonderful."

REPORTER: "And how are the babies?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "They're marvellous, they really are. We have been down to see them. Once early this morning and we go down quite often during the day and an evening. And the care down there is absolutely fantastic. We watched a complete transfusion on the little boy yesterday, and he is just marvellous. He really is. And the little girl is, you know, being fed one meal an hour, and now we are really quite hopeful for them at this stage."

REPORTER: "Who was it who broke the news about the birth to you afterwards?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "I think it was my husband."

REPORTER: "And what was your reaction?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "Oh, I was a little stunned, but I was absolutely thrilled."

REPORTER: "Has the great interest around the world reached you here in the hospital?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "Ah, to a certain extent. My husband brings me in the papers and we have been watching the television news and this sort of thing, but not a great deal really."

REPORTER: "Why did you take the fertility pill?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "Obviously because I wanted another baby."

REPORTER: "Did you have the normal dose of this fertility treatment?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "Ah, I had had a similar dose during an earlier course of treatment, and had had not any reaction to it whatever. I had also been given several courses of clotherene and had no reaction to it either."

REPORTER: "How was the response to the treatment measured?"

MRS. BRODRICK: Well, each day the amount of hormones released by the ovary are carefully measured, and only after these measurements were proved not to be excessively high was the releasing injection given, which releases the ova from the ovary, um, given to me and I was only ever given one injection. One releasing injection.

REPORTER: "Were you warned about the possibility of multiple birth?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "Most definitely....yes. And I was quite prepared to take the risk."

REPORTER: "What was your feeling when you were told that there was in fact to be a multiple birth?"

MRS. BRODRICK: "Well, I was rather delighted. I've always been quite happy to have at least two, you know, and even when I thought, you know, the number was going up, it certainly didn't worry me at all."

REPORTER: "Would you take the drug again?"

    MRS. BRODRICK: "Most definitely....yes."

Background: Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Brodrick prayed for their tiny son and daughter on Thursday (17 June) and are hopeful for their survival. The babies are the only survivors of the nine born to Mrs. Geraldine Brodrick, 29, in Sydney last Sunday (13 June).

The baby boy, who weighs 12 ounces (340 grams), had an exchange blood transfusion on Wednesday night (16 June). A hospital bulletin gave no reason for the transfusion. The team nursing the two babies--born 12 weeks prematurely--said on Thursday that there had been no substantial change in their condition. Two days before, they were said to be "causing concern."
This film, shot by A.T.N.-7 of Sydney, was transmitted via Satellite to Europe today 17 June (Thursday).
