Israel have asked France to hold M. Abu Daoud as a first step in a full extradition demand, so he can face charges of masterminding the attack on the Israeli Olympic team. But sources, quoted by Reuters news agency, said France would be unlikely to grant an extradition request from Israel because this could jeopardise the credibility of the country's Middle East stance. However, Reuters added that the French government might look more favourably on an extradition demand from West Germany, since both countries are partners in a European Common Market campaign against international terrorism.
