  • Description

Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko continued his talks with Indian Ministers in New Delhi on Wednesday (11 August) when he met the External Affairs Minister, Mr. Swaran Singh, in the morning and the France Minister Mr. Yeshwantrao Chavan later in the day.

Indian officials said later that Mr. Gromyko had told the Indian Finance Minister that he was happy over the Indian reaction to the 20 year Indo-Soviet "Peace, Friendship and Cooperation" treaty signed on August 9.

Mr. Gromyko was also told that India had accepted the responsibility of looking after the flood of refugees from East Pakistan, but that the influx should not interfere with the nation's development plans. Mr. Chavan also added that more aid would be needed from abroad to meet the gigantic problem.
