    And in earlier heavy raids the Polish ship "Josef Conrad", was so badly damaged, that it is unable to sail under its own steam. Five members of the crew, including the First Mate, were killed, and nine were wounded.

    Since the raids on Haiphong began in April last year six Russian, two Chinese, three British, one Polish, one East German and an Italian ship have been damaged.

    SYNOPSIS: A group of Journalists have been shown a bomb damaged hospital in the North Vietnamese city of Haiphong. They were shown the damage by the deputy head of the hospital which was hit in a raid by United States B-52 aircraft in the early hours of the 23rd December. The raid was one of many ordered by President Nixon when the last round of peace talks ended in failure.

    The sign reads; "Czechoslovakia-North Vietnam Friendship Hospital". Its Epidemic Prevention Wing was the most damaged part of the building; although it held 65 beds, many of the patients had earlier been evacuated which reduced the number of injured. Patients in other parts of the building were not so lucky and the victims of the raid included women any young children.

    Haiphong is the biggest harbour close to Hanoi, the capital of North Vietnam. Last year, the Untied States started a mine blockade to prevent supplies from coming in, and foreign ships suffered the consequences.

    This Polish ship, the "Jozef Conrad" was damaged during the raid on Haiphong just before Christmas. It was badly damaged and is unable to sail under its own steam, five crewmen were killed, among them, the First Mate and the ship's doctor, nine other sailors were injured. Since the bombing of Haiphong began in April last year, a number of foreign ships have been hit. They include six Russians, three British, two Chinese, one Polish, one East German and one Italian vessel.
