  • Description

Thousands of people celebrated the Lantern Festival in Taipei, Taiwan, on Saturday ( 14 February).

The festival falls on the fifteenth day of the first moon of the chinese lunar calendar and officially winds up Chinese New Year celebrations.

The Lungshan Temple is the focal point of festivities in Taipei. A huge display of colourful lanterns runs for three days and is visited by thousands of people, both Taiwanese and Westerns.

This year the biggest lantern on display is the "Taoist Sun Depicting Eyeballs of Dra on and Tiger". It tells the story of a Taoist named Sun who, in the Tang dynasty, could make drawings of dragons and tigers like alive by painting their eyeballs.

Children are also treated to a puppet show in the temple, with the puppets reenacting scenes from Taiwanese history.
