Background: The French helicopter carrier, Jeanne D'Arc, arrived in Abidjan last Tuesday (2 May) for a three-day visit before leaving on Friday for Dakar, senegal.
Accompanying the carrier was the French frigate, Victor Schoelcher. On their arrival a detachment of the Ivorian Navy fried a 21-gun salute.
Ivory Coast Navy Commander Lamine Fadiga went aboard the Jeanne D'Arc to personally greet the ship's commanding officer, Captain Gerard de Castelbajac.
During their visit officers of both ships were received by Ivory Coast President Felix Houphouet-Boigny and by his minister of the Armed Forces, M. Kouadio Mbahia Ble.
