Background: Turkish Prime Minister Suleiman Demirel arrived in Belgrade on Tuesday for a five-day official visit to Yugoslavia. He was met at the airport by Yugoslavian Prime Minister Mitya Ribichich and senior government officials.

Mr. Demirel, who was accompanied by his wife, is in Yugoslavia at the personal invitation of Mr. Ribichich. The visit is largely a goodwill gesture, although the two leaders will be having a series of talks on matters of mutual interest to both countries.

In a short speech, Mr. Demirel said that his stay in Yugoslavia would serve the important purpose of cementing still further the excellent relations that already existed between the two countries.

During his stay in Yugoslavia, Mr. Dimerel and his accompanying officials will be visiting Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Macedonia.
