  • Description

At a press conference in Beverley Hills, California, U.S.A., November 19, reporters were told of the recent claim that pictures owned by a local Italian immigrant family are masterpieces worth ten million dollars. Newsmen were shown photographs of paintings, one of which is claimed to be a "Maddalena" by Caravaggio.

Two experts who examined the pictures say the - besides the "Maddalena" - the collection includes works by Tintoretto, Titian and Raphael, but other art experts, in America, Italy and Britain, have expressed doubt about the claims.

The paintings belong to Alfonso Follo and his sister, Mrs. Maria Follo Hataburda, who are said to have brought the pictures to the United States fifteen years ago. The family are said to have acquired the paintings in 1887 from a relative, Cardinal Senna-Antonia.
