  • Description

British power boat, UNO-Embassy smashed last year's record in the 1975 Embassy/Daily Express International Offshore Powerboat Race between Cowes and Torquay on Sunday (24 August). The boat was driven by ??? owner and designer, Don Shead, together with co-owners, Harry ??? and Col. Ronnie Hoare.

The thirty seven foot Class I racer completed the two hundred and twenty five mile return trip between Cowes and Torquay at an average speed of seventy two point eight six miles per hour nearly six miles an hour faster than last year's winner Dry Martini driven by Carlo Bonomi of Italy who set the record of 66.9 m.p.h.

The Italian at one stage looked like coming in first for the second year running when he took the load earlier on.

Shead's closest rival towards the end of the race was Brazil's Wallace Franz in his thirty eight foot Bertram. Franz ??? the overall lead on the return trip across Lyme Bay and still held a commanding position as they passed Yarmouth ten miles from home.

However Shead surged ahead and took the winners flag with an eleven second lead from Franz.
