As Israel Prepared to hand over to Egypt the Alma oilfields in Sinai, the israeli Foreign Minister Ezer Weizman has ben visiting Egypt for talks on oil sales. After meeting Egyptian Petroleum Minister Ahmed Ezzeddin Hilal, Mr. Weizman said the two countries had reached an agreement on oil sales under which Israel would honour its promise to hand over the oilfields by November 26. Afterwards, Mr. Weizman went on to visit Egyptian president Anwar Sadat.
SYNOPSIS: The venue for the meeting was President Sadat's private Cairo residence. Mr. Weizman and his party arrived after lengthy meeting with the Egyptian petroleum Minister, in which they discussed the details of the oilfield handover prior to israel's interim withdrawal from sinai in January. Mr. Weizman said the full handover details would be finalised by the two countries' energy ministers.
Mr. Weizman spent much off his visit discussing the oil agreement. Afterwards he told reporters he and Mr. Hilal had reached in 'understanding' on the subject. Mr. Hilal pointed out, however, that there would be no preferential treatment for israel either on price or quantity. Mr. Weizman was then asked about his future plans in Egypt.
