Italy's President Giovanni Leone opened two days of top level political consultations on Monday (4 March) in efforts to form a new Government. Italy's four party coalition had resigned on Saturday (2 March) following and international dispute over economic policy.
President Leone had declared his intention to finish the consultations inside two days to ensure a speedy end to the crisis. Among visitors to the President office on the first day were Sandro Pertini, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Giovanni Gronchi and Gu seppi Saragat -- both former Presidents--and Signor Spagholi, the current President of the Italian Senate.
The outgoing government was ???ed by Signor Mariano Rumor, who headed a centre-left coalition of Christian Democrats, Socialists, Social Democrats and Republicans. There is little doubt in Italy that the intense political activity will lead to another Government headed by Signor Rumor.
