  • Description

The court trying Adolf Eichmann today had its first glimpse of two possible witnesses - the two Israeli airline officials who may be called by defence to support Eichmann's claim that he was abducted from the Argentine by illegal means.

It happened soon after the afternoon session began. Eichmann turned sharply in the dock when a judge called for the two men to be brought before the court.

The two men who came forward were Captain Zvi Tohar, chief pilot of Israeli's El Al airline, and Mr. Jap Shimoni, a Dutch-born airline official. The court has yet to decide on the defence request that the two men be admitted as witnesses and today they took the stand merely to hear Mr. Justice Landau tell them they could leave the court. They were free until Monday.

He added that they must hold themselves at three-hour notice by telephone as from tomorrow. In fact the court was not sitting the next day (Thursday) which has been set aside by israel as a national day of mourning for the victims of Nazism.
