Background: THE 1966 TOURIST TROPHY MOTORCYCLE RACES, POSTPONED FROM JUNE BECAUSE OF THE BRITISH SEAMEN'S STRIKE, BEGINS ON SUNDAY. RIDERS FROM MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD HAVE BEEN PRACTISING ON THE ISLE OF MAN IN PREPARATION FOR THE EVENT.

SUNDAY WILL SEE THE SIDECAR RACE AND THE LIGHTWEIGHT 250 C.C. RACE. WEDNESDAY: THE 125 C.C. RACE AND THE JUNIOR RACE. FRIDAY (2 SEPT): THE 50 C.C. RACE AND THE SENIOR RACE.

RACE FANS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO A SHARP DUEL BETWEEN BRITAIN'S MIKE HAILWOOD AND ITALY'S GIACOMO AGOSTINI. HAILWOOD, RIDING FOR HONDA THIS SEASON, HAS BEEN 500 C.C. WORLD CHAMPION SINCE 1962, BUT IS BEHIND ON POINTS. AGOSTINI, ONE-TIME STABLEMATE OF HAILWOOD'S ON THE MV TEAM, NEEDS ONLY VICTORY IN THE SENIOR EVENT TO CLINCH THE TITLE. HAILWOOD NEEDS BOTH THE SENIOR AND THE ITALIAN GRAND PRIX TO HOLD ON TO IT.
