  • Description

HELLCAT III S CROWNED A SERIES OF IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCES TODAY (WEDNESDAY) TO WIN THE FOURTH AND DECISIVE RACE AGAINST AUSTRALIA TO KEEP THE INTERNATIONAL CATAMARAN TROPHY IN BRITAIN.

A WESTERLY WIND OF 18 KNOTS WITH VERY LITTLE SEA AND PLENTY OF SUNSHINE MADE CONDITIONS HAPPY FOR BOTH CREWS AND SPECTATORS.

BOTH QUEST AND HELLCAT MADE GOOD STARTS, BUT THE BRITISH BOAT WAS IN THE SAFER LEEWARD BERTH AS THEY COMMENCED THEIR FIRST WINDWARD TURN.ON THIS POINT HELLCAT OUTSAILED QUEST, AND BY THE TIME THE WEATHER MARK WAS TURNED SHE WAS 30 SECONDS IN THE LEAD.

ON THE SECOND LEG QUEST SEEMED TO MOVE FASTER, CLOSING THE GAP A LITTLE. IN SPITE OF THE AUSTRALIANS' CLEVER HANDLING OF THEIR BOAT THE BRITISH ENTER WAS ALWAYS IN A COMMANDING POSITION.

SHE SAILED HOME AT THE END OF A MOST SPORTING RACE A CONVINCING WINNER BY 64 SECONDS.
