    In Brussels on Monday (18 December) an agreement of cooperation, in the field of trade, signed by officials of the European Economic Community (EEC), and Egypt ... represented by Mohamed Abdullah Merziban, Minister of Foreign Trade. the five-year trade agreement with Egypt marks the start of a deliberate campaign by the EEC to improve relations with Mediterranean countries, and gives "favoured nation" status to Egypt for her industrial and agricultural exports to Common Market countries. The EEC was represented at the signing ceremony by Dr Sicco Mansholt, President of the European Commission, and Council of Minsters' President, Mr. Norbert Schmelzer.

    SYNOPSIS: The EEC building in Brussels, where officials gathered on Monday for the signing of a special trade agreement between the Community and Egypt.

    Egypt was represented by Foreign Trade Minster, Mohamed Merziban, the Council of Minsters by its President, Mr. Schmelzer, and the European Commission by Dr. Mansholt, its current President.

    The five-year trade agreement marks the start of a considered and deliberate campaign by the Common Market to improve relations and general trade co-operation with Mediterranean countries. Here, Dr. Mansholt signs the document for the European Commission.

    The new agreement gives "favoured nation" status to Egypt for her industrial and agricultural exports to Common Market countries.
