INTRODUCTION: In spite of an ardent campaign by the World Wildlife Association for Beauty without Cruelty, furs were still a major part of English designed Bill Gibb's autumn collection exhibited in London last Wednesday (23 March). According to Mr Gibb and his directors, however, none of the fur fell within the endangered species category.

SYNOPSIS: This Stone Martin kimono was just one of the many furs on display. The kimono with red wool insets is worn over a halter neck top and has an ancient tartan full length skirt to match.

For evening, Mr Gibb has selected this black fox jacket with a matching stole worn over it. Underneath is a black silk jersey teeshirt with a slivery lace over-panel. And to top it off black silk jersey pantaloons with silver mosaic trim. Mr Gibb has been a leading designer for the past 10 years. In 1970, Vogue magazine elected him as "Designer of the Year".

The traditional Scottish dress was another obvious theme of the collection. The model on the left here is wearing an ancient tartan kimono, pleated from the waist and trimmed in silver braid. While once again on the left, we have the Scottish style skirt with red velvet jacket.

In contrast, illustrating Mr Gibb's well-known versatility, we have this feminine party dress. The delicate checked organza blouse is set off by the soft pale pink and grey colours and embroidered neckline. And just to add to the elegance of the ensemble, a silver lame embroidered cumberbund.
