    THE COMPETITION ATTRACTED ENTRANTS FROM SIX COUNTRIES - MALAYSIA, BRUNEI (A BRITISH PROTECTORATE ENCLAVE IN NORTHERN SARAWAK), THAILAND, THE PHILIPPINES, INDIA AND PAKISTAN.

    THE MALAYSIAN KING AND QUEEN, TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN, THE MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER, AND OTHER DIGNITARIES, INCLUDING DELEGATES TO THE SOUTH-EAST ASIA REGIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE WORLD MUSLIM CONGRESS, WERE PRESENT.

    THE WINNER OF THE WOMEN'S SECTION WAS FARIDAH BINTE SAMAN. TWENTY-TWO YEAR OLD HASSAN BIN MUSA WON THE MEN'S SECTION. HIS CLOSEST RIVAL WAS HAJI AHMAD SHARKI OF THAILAND.

    TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN, SPEAKING AT THE END OF THE COMPETITION, SAID THAT MALAYSIA HAD BEEN FORMED WITH THE WISHES OF THE PEOPLE. NO ONE COULD CRUSH MALAYSIA EXCEPT GOD -- "IF HE WILLS."
