The future of Uganda... The Relationships Commission began taking evidence Jan 21 on a tour of the country that started at Mubende. The three-man commission is headed by Lord Munster, and will submit its report to Britain's Colonial Secretary, Iain Macleod.
People intending to submit views on the future constitutions of Uganda have a month to do so. Recently, the Lukiko (Parliament) of Buganda announced Buganda's secession from the rest of the British protectorate of Uganda.
The Commission is concerned with Governmental, urban authority and financial issues. It will also deal with the arrangements to be made to safeguard the position of the hereditary rulers. One of the commission's joint secretaries, Mr. C. Powell-Cotton, said it might not be possible to talk to everyone that submitted a memorandum. "But we give the assurance that any memorandum submitted will be carefully considered," he said.
