  • Description

Paris fashion designer Jacques Heim showed his 1961 Autumn-Winter collection in the breezy Trocadero Gardens - a sloping colourful terrain on the banks of the Seine by the Palais de Chaillot - Nato's headquarters - and opposite the Eiffel Tower.

Happily for the girls, no fierce winds swept the Seine as they showed hats with such names as Hug Heart (Accroche-Coeur), Am-Stram-Gam, Torpedo and Supercherie.

The furs they wore had equally evocative labels: Blizzard, Igloo, Sherpa, and Stratus.

A noteworthy head-item is this mink bonnet with a pointed crown with something of the touch of a Cossack about it.

Other head apparel, according to the designer's information sheet, says that they are "radio active with feather fall out".

The fashion dictates say; "Look tall this Winter." The general line is straight, hipless and simple. The trend is for easy elegance, the 'casual look,' of lasses with not only a delicate air but a sporting air too.

Scissor work is ruthless: Dresses are sliced of impedimenta, they have no sleeves, little room for hips and scarcely none for the bosom.

But suits are very feminine and coats are large, tweedy, sometimes collarless, sometimes with white mink.

Posing on the steps near the Palais de Chaillot, three star mannequins show cocktail and evening wear: on the left, Jackie in "Frissonnante", in the middle. Carrol in "Sirroco;" and on the right. Christine in Mascotte."
Frissonnante is an evening silk chemise-dress in shining mauve silk and with coat of mauve taffeta. Sirocco is a chestnut brown (maroon) voile with deep plunging back, and Mascotte, with a similar open back, is of black silk for cocktail wear.

In another corner of the Gardens, Christine on the left shows "Ricochet" and Jackie shows "Signal." "Ricochet" is a mauve dress of Jersey wool with pantalons. "Signal" is a grey reversible flannel dress and coat with martingale belt.

posing later, Jackie on the left displays "Tire-Larigot" an Autumn dress and jacket of grey and black. With her is Carrol in "Muscadine" an Autumn ensemble - tailored maroon Scottish wear with a sweater of tortoise shell-coloured doe skin, and heavy Scottish scarf.
