    HAILWOOD, RIDING A 500 c.c. BRITISH-MAD SEELEY, WON THE FIRST HEAT FROM THE ITALIAN RENZO PASOLINI ON A FOUR-CYLINDER 350 c.c. BELLINI. READ, ON A 350 c.c. YAMAHA WAS THIRD, AND W. IVY, ON A SMALLER 250 c.c. YAMAHA WAS FOURTH.

    HAILWOOD TOOK AN EARLY LEAD IN THE FIRST HEAT AND HELD BACK STRONG CHALLENGES FROM THE ITALIAN AND READ.

    IN THE FINAL HEAT READ SET THE EARLY PACE, BUT WAS OVERTAKEN BY THE EXPERIENCED HAILWOOD AFTER ONLY A FEW LAPS. THE CONTEST BETWEEN READ AND HAILWOOD CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE RACE, WITH READ COMING SECOND. IVY WAS THIRD AND R. PICKRELL, ON A 754 c.c. DUNSTALL, WAS FOURTH.

    THE TWO HEATS WERE EACH OVER FIFTEEN LAPS, OR 39.75 MILES (64 K.M.) HAILWOOD WAS TO HAVE RIDDEN A FOUR-CYLINDER 297 c.c. HONDA, BUT SWITCHED TO THE BRITISH MACHINE AFTER THE JAPANESE MOTORCYCLE DEVELOPED MECHANICAL TROUBLE.
