THE ELECTION, WHICH WAS FOR THE MAYOR OF THE TOWN OF SAINT ANDRE, HAS WON BY THE GAULLIST, DR. SULLY DUBARD. ON ELECTION DAY, M. VERGES WENT TO THE TOWN HALL OF ST. ANDRE, WHERE ONE OF THE POLLING STATIONS WAS ERECTED. HE STARTED TO HARANGUE A CROWD BELOW IN THE STREETS WHILE VOTING WAS STILL TAKING PLACE. SOME OF THE CROWD STARTED TO HECKLE THE COMMUNIST LEADER AND HE WAS ASKED TO LEAVE THE TOWN HALL. AS HE WAS BEING ESCORTED TO A POLICE VEHICLE, M. VERGES WAS STRUCK WITH A LOAF OF BREAD BY AN OLD WOMAN.
