  • Description

South Vietnamese troops have gone to the assistance of Cambodia in an attempt to end the communist control of Highway Four, the vital road linking the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh and the port of Kompong Som. For two months the communists have had virtual control of the highway, seriously disrupting Cambodian exports.

General Hanh Vu Huu of the South Vietnamese Army Task Force has conferred with General Sostain Fernandez of the Cambodian Army to formulate the strategy of the South Vietnamese force. Some South Vietnamese troops are reported to have landed in Kompong Som to counter a threatened move by communist forces towards the city.

The South Vietnamese force is expected to link up later with the Cambodian force which has been unsuccessfully trying to clear Highway Four.
