    THE NEW BANGKOK OFFICE OF THE UNITED NATION'S FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANISATION (FAO) WAS OPENED ON MONDAY (MAY 1) BY THE THAI PRIME MINISTER, FIELD MARSHAL THANOM KITTIKACHORN.

    THE FOUR-STOREY BUILDING WAS BUILT BY THE THAI GOVERNMENT AT A COST OF 200,000 UNITED STATES DOLLARS. IT IS DIVIDED INTO ONE LARGE AUDITORIUM SEATING 80 PEOPLE, TWO SMALLER MEETING ROOMS SEATING 25 PERSONS EACH AND 20 OFFICES FOR EXPERTS.

    IN HIS SPEECH, PREMIER KITTIKACHORN SAID THE TECHNICAL SERVICES WHICH F.A.O. HAS GIVEN TO THE MEMBER GOVERNMENTS IN THE REGION WERE "MOST FITTING, AS THE COUNTRIES ARE MAINLY AGRICULTURAL."
    THE WELFARE OF THE PEOPLES AND THE ECONOMIC SOLVENCY OF THE NATIONS DEPEND ON AGRICULTURAL IMPROVEMENTS", HE SAID.

    A NAME PLAQUE OF THE ORGANISATION WAS LATER UNVEILED BY THE PRIME MINISTER.
