Background: Arms allegedly smuggled into Niger by ex-President Nkrumah of Ghana are on show in Niamey, the capital.
The Niger government says that the arms and ammunition were smuggled to the banned Sawaba Party from Ghana during Dr. Nkrumah's Presidency.
The arms, including grenades made in Eastern Europe, are on show at the Presidential Palace in Niamey. There are also books on communism.
The training of members of the Sawaba Party in Ghana led to relations between two conutries becoming strained. But things have improved... General Ankrah, the leader of the National Liberation Council which ousted President Nkrumah, has just ended an official visit to Niger.
While he was there, members of his party saw the arms on show at the Presidential Palace.
