    CU Ali speaking

TRANSCRIPT: BUGNER: "He kept saying to me, 'Come on let's hear you working.' I knew, I knew he was trying to wear me out quicker... predicting he was going to knock me out in ten. But what I wanted to do mainly was to try to wear him down. But he clicked on quite soon and he played around. Unfortunately, he had the experience on me and the edge, but it won't happen the next time."

QUESTION: "Would you say you underestimated Muhammad Ali?"

BUGNER: "Well, no, I didn't underestimate anything, I knew that Muhammad was very strong and for because a man that spars 15-rounds three days before the fight must be taking the fight very seriously. I knew he was in top condition whatever the press said."

ALI: "When I retire I want it to be said there weren't nobody around to beat me. Now there's three men around Norton, Foreman and Frazier and they still think might win, so I'm not going to be considered yellow o hang around. Joe Bugner will be the next Champ as soon as I retire. I knew he can do it. I couldn't hurt him and only hit him during the last of the rounds when I got a few openings. But he's strong. He's young. That's right, Joe, you are the greatest next to me. Joe Frazier didn't give me as rough a time as you, Ken Norton didn't give me as rough a time as you, George Foreman didn't give me as rough a time as you and you are the next man in line. I'm 33. You've got 8 long years before you're this age. I'm going to be gone very soon. I'm barely hanging on the ropes now. So just lay dead, stay in shape, because this is your world. You have the complexion, the connections, the complexion, and you have the skills and the will to do the job."

Background: The heavyweight title fight between Muhammad Ali and Hoe Bugner is all over but the talking, and in both cases Ali is still the Champion. The American title holder disposed of his British challenger in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Tuesday (1 July) in a 15 round decision.

There were no knockdowns, but both judges and the referee made Ali the overwhelming winner. the 33-year-old Champion took the 104-degree-fahrenheit temperature in his stride and kept up a drum beat of left hooks on his opponent.

Although 25-year-old Bugner fought gamely and tried desperately to land a knockout punch, he was outgunned and lated admitted Ali's experience and the weather were too much for him... although he said he was confident he would the title some day.

On that subject even Ali agreed, calling Bugner "the greatest after me."
Their remarks came shortly after the fight at a news conference. Ali also disposed of his own suggestion that he might retire after this fight by promising to fight Joe Frazier, Ken Norton and George Foreman before he steps out of the ring. The Frazier- Ali fight has already been set for 1 October, 1975 in Manila, Philippines.
