Background: On August 16, two armed robbers held up the Dresdner Bank in Manheim. The police were called and in an ensuing struggle, one of the policemen, Policemaster Bucher was shot and killed.
After protracted enquiries the trial of the two robbers - German Kurt Schuler and his British confederate, Brian M. Cowell, has re-opened in Mannheim.
On the second day - November 9 - the director of the bank and a police-driver who was injured during the struggle appeared as witnesses.
Another policeman, called Schubering, shows the court his cigarette lighter which bears the deep scar of a bullet: it undoubtedly saved his life.
The German Jury is out to establish which of the two robbers actually fired the shots.
During the course of the investigations the gun which fired the shots was checked with information from Bristol CID to see if there was any connection between the Mannheim Robbery and that in which a Bristol bank manager was killed five years ago.
