  • Description

A six-story building in St. Louis, Missouri (USA) containing the personal records of millions of former United States servicemen was devastated by fire on Thursday (12 July).

The loss of the records could cause problems for veterans seeking medical cars, pensions, or other benefits. It contained the records of all retired or discharged personnel of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

On Friday (13 July), the Federal Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate the cause of the fire, which was still out of control nearly 24 hours after it was first noticed.

There have been about twelve suspicious fires in the huge records complex of the building in the past two years.
