    THE NON-GOVERNMENTAL WEST EUROPEAN FISHERIES CONFERENCE BEGAN A TWO-DAY PRIVATE SESSION IN LONDON TODAY (TUESDAY). THE CONFERENCE IS DISCUSSING THE NEW EUROPEAN FISHERY LIMITS CONVENTION. IT WILL ALSO BE DISCUSSING MUTUAL SETTLEMENT OF CLAIMS RESULTING FROM DAMAGE TO FISHING GEAR AND DEVELOPMENTS IN THE FISHING INDUSTRY IN WESTERN EUROPE.

    BRITAIN, BELGIUM, DENMARK, FRANCE, WEST GERMANY, THE NETHERLANDS, NORWAY, PORTUGAL, SPAIN AND SWEDEN ARE REPRESENTED.

    MR SUDDABY, THE PRESIDENT OF THE BRITISH TRAWLERS FEDERATION, OPENED THE CONFERENCE. HE SAID THAT SINCE THEIR LAST MEETING PERHAPS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT HAD BEEN THE MEASURE OF INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENT REACHED AT THE RECENT LONDON FISHERIES CONFERENCE HELD AT GOVERNMENTAL LEVEL. THIS CONFERENCE IN MARCH LAST CONCLUDED A NEW FISHERY LIMITS CONVENTION.

    BRITAIN UNDER THE NEW CONVENTION IS EXTENDING HER FISHERY LIMITS FROM THREE TO 12 MILES FROM TOMORROW. BUT SHE IS GIVING FISHERMEN FROM FRANCE, BELGIUM, HOLLAND, WEST GERMANY, POLAND, NORWAY AND EIRE CERTAIN RIGHTS TO FISH IN SOME PARTS OF THESE LIMITS.
