Background: Ghana's Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat the TSV Heilbronn-Biberach, a visiting West German team, in Kumasi on Sunday (15 June) by a stunning three goals to nil.

The defeat tarnished the clean record of the West Germans. They had won 20 of their 21 matches on their current tour of the United States, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Britain and Africa.

The Kotoko -- affectionately known as the "Porcupine Warriors" by the locals -- confidently took the game into their hands from the start. They attacked their opponents relentlessly. And by the second half of the game they had effectively upset the defence of the West Germans.

The Ghanaians have considerable experience in playing against visiting teams. They are regarded as the country's best gauge for testing the prowess of their visitors.

Sunday's match was the forerunner of the three matches the West Germans are due to play while in Ghana.

SYNOPSIS: Ghana's Kumasi Asante Kotoko kicked off to start a tough match against a visiting West German team, TSV Heilbronn-Biberach. The match was held at Kumasi on Sunday. It was a forerunner of the three matches the West Germans are due to play while in Ghana.

The Kotoko, or the "Porcupine Warriors" as they are affectionately known to the locals, were in command of the game from the very beginning. The home team -- wearing white jerseys -- scored their first goal in the forty-fourth minute.

The Ghanaians have considerable experience in playing against visiting teams. In fact, the Kotoko is often chosen to gauge the prowess of visitors to Ghana. Their performance is always forceful...as they proved again on Sunday when they effectively weakened the confidence of the West Germans and consequently, their defence.

The West Germans had an almost perfect record after winning twenty of the twenty-one matches during their current tour of several countries. They have so far visited the United States, Britain, Czechoslovakia, Spain and a number of African countries. But on Sunday, they lost for the second time. The Ghanaians scored their second goal, then a third in the last minute before the end of the game. They beat the West Germans three-zero.
