    Building It's the new Westinghouse Ocean Research and Engineering Center, built to create new ideas for exploration of our world under the sea.



    Cachalot Here work is being completed on a newer Cachalot diving system that will permit divers to work at depths of 850 feet. Previous Cachalot divers set records this past summer by working in 600 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico.



    Computer room Computers permit scientists to simulate ocean conditions in the laboratory and solve problems before they crop up in actual tests.



    Divers and tank A 40-thousand gallon experimental pool also permits divers to check out new equipment before it is used in the ocean.



    Tank and sonar One such device is called the side-looking sonar. This electronic marvel can take sound pictures of the ocean floor at any depth, where there is no light.



    Diver Scientists here are engaged in a wide variety of oceanographic experiments that will give man the knowledge to probe the hostile underseas environment.
