The first Egyptian Ambassador the Ivory Coast, Mr. Abdel Fattah Hassan Chabana, presented his credentials to President Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday (11 April).
In their meeting at the Presidential Palace, the Ivorian head of state referred to the current work to reopen the Suez Canal. He told the new ambassador how happy he is to see the conflict in the Middle East leading to a satisfactory outcome.
He added it was now up to the two super powers to ensure the implementation of Security Council resolutions calling for Israeli withdrawal from occupied Arab territories and the recognition of Palestinian rights.
On the same day, President Houphouet-Boigny also received the credentials of the new ambassador of one of the super powers, the United States. He's Mr. Robert Smith. And he told President Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday that Americans found the Ivory Coast one of the most stimulating countries on the whole African continent, with an admirable emphasis on free speech and the open exchange of ideas.
