Background: Security along the border from West Germany into Austria has been tightened up as the date for President Nixon's visit approaches. Demonstrators are expected to come from such areas of West Germany as Munich, and border guards have been checking passports of incoming drivers. Hikers and others have also been checked, and some have been turned away. Saturday's threat by demonstrators to blow up shops displaying the specially-minted Nixon coin has meant increased security in Salzburg and the surrounding areas.
