• Short Summary

THE NEW AMBASSADOR OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, M. MICHEL MAHELENGAMO, ON WEDNESDAY (5 JUNE)?

  • Description

THE NEW AMBASSADOR OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, M. MICHEL MAHELENGAMO, ON WEDNESDAY (5 JUNE) PRESENTED HIS CREDENTIALS TO CHAD PRESIDENT, FRANCOIS TOMALBAYE, AT THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE IN FORT LAMY.

IN HIS SPEECH MR. MAHELENGAMO REMINDED THE CHAD OFFICIALS THAT HE WAS THE SECOND AMBASSADOR FROM THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC AND THAT HE HAD BEEN IN FORT LAMY REPRESENTING HIS COUNTRY FOR FOUR YEARS, AS FIRST SECRETARY AND CHARGE D'AFFAIRES BEFORE BECOMING AMBASSADOR. THIS DIPLOMATIC CHANGE FOLLOWED THE DECISION OF THE THREE-MEMBER COUNTRIES OF THE UNION OF CENTRAL AFRICAN STATES TO ELEVATE THEIR CHIEF REPRESENTATIVES IN EACH OTHER'S CAPITALS TO THE RANK OF AMBASSADOR.

MR. MAHELENGAMO RECALLED THAT IT WAS PRESIDENT TOMALBAYE HIMSELF WHO HAD TAKEN THE INITIATIVE SHORTLY AFTER HIS ACCESSION TO POWER IN MARCH 1966 TO ASSURE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC PRESIDENT, JEAN BEDEL BOKASSA, OF HIS FRIENDSHIP AND SUPPORT.

AFTER PRESENTING HIS CREDENTIALS AND DELIVERING A MESSAGE OF GOODWILL FROM PRESIDENT BOKASSA, THE NEW AMBASSADOR CONCLUDED HIS ADDRESS BY EXPRESSING THE HOPE THAT THE UNION OF CENTRAL AFRICAN STATES WOULD CONTINUE TO DEVELOP WITH THE PROGRESS AND HARMONY ALREADY ACHIEVED.

IN REPLY, PRESIDENT TOMALBAYE TOLD THE AMBASSADOR - "CO-OPERATION AND UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN OUR TWO COUNTRIES ARE, AS WE KNOW, YOUR DEEPEST CONCERN."
