  • Description

Kenya's successful Olympic Games team returned to Nairobi Airport on Thursday (14 September) to a warm welcome from thousands of sports fans.

The eighty-strong contingent of sportsmen and officials arrived on a special East African Airways aircraft to be met by Vice-President Daniel Moi.

Heading the returning heroes was gold medallist Kipohoge Keine, who won the 3,000 meters steeplechase and was second in the 1,500 meters.

The Kenyan team returned home with nine medals...two gold, three silver and four bronze.

Vice-President Mol said at the airport that Kenya was proud of her Olympic squad and said the people had been overjoyed to see their triumphs on television.

Keino, a 32-year-old police inspector, said he intended to retire from international athletics next year.
