  • Description

President V.V.Giri of India arrived in Dar es Salaam on Thursday (28 September) to spend four days on a state visit to Tanzania.

He was welcomed at the airport by President Julius Nyerere.

President Giri -- whose trip was arranged well before the current crisis between Tanzania and Uganda -- is expected to discuss the expulsion of Asian from Uganda in his talks with President Nyerere.

The recent abortive invasion of Uganda by Ugandan insurgents based in Tanzania, is another major item for discussion.

India and Tanzania have both firmly denied a Ugandan charge that they were in collusion with Zambia in planning a flash invasion of Uganda.

President Giri has already visited Ethiopia and flies on to Zambia on Monday (2 October).
