Background: Following last month's bombing raids by U.S. B-52 bombers on the North Vietnamese port of Haiphong, North vietnamese authorities have just released film which purportedly shows how some of the strikes actually destroyed residential areas in non-military zones of the city. This film was shot soon after the raids took place.
The strikes against Haiphong were ordered by U.S. President Richard Nixon in an effort to prevent North Vietnamese from moving vital war supplies to feed their current offensive in South Vietnam.
This film shows damaged buildings, including a hospital, which the North Vietnamese say were bombed during the April raids. According to North Vietnamese sources, more than 100 houses were destroyed in the strikes and the death toll in the residential areas is estimated to be nearly 100.
