    M. ACKER, WHO IS 68 YEARS OLD, IS NOW PRESIDENT OF THE CHAMBER OF REPRESENTATIVES (LOWER HOUSE).

    HE WILL ACT AS CONSTITUTIONAL ADVISER TO THE KING IN SEEKING A SOLUTION TO THE SITUATION WHICH AFTER WEEKS OF POLITICAL TURMOIL, STRIKES AND VIOLENCE, CULMINATED IN THE RESIGNATION OF THE COALITION OF SOCIAL CHRISTIANS AND SOCIALISTS, LED BY PRIME MINISTER PIERRE HARMEL, LAST WEEK.

    M. ACKER WAS REPORTED TODAY TO BE ATTEMPTING TO REVIVE THE ALLIANCE, BUT NEITHER PARTY WERE YET READY TO STATE WHETHER THEY WERE PREPARED TO ENTER INTO A NEW ASSOSIATION.

    THE COALITION BROKE UP IN A DISPUTE OVER HEALTH INSURANCE, THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN UNDERLYING STRAINS OVER AN OLD COMMUNAL PROBLEM BETWEEN THE FLEMISH IN THE NORTH AND WEST, AND THE MAINLY SOCIALIST, FRENCH-SPEAKING WALLOONS, IN THE SOUTH AND EAST.
