  • Description

Jordan's Parliament on Monday (11 June) gave a vote of confidence in the Prime Minister, Zeid Al-Rifai's new government after he had submitted a policy statement categorically rejecting all partial and unilateral solutions to the Middle East question. The statement insisted that any settlement "to end (Israeli) aggression" should be based on an understanding of unified Arab action.

Mr. Rifai also said he would try to strengthen relations between Jordan and other Arab countries, and with "friendly" countries. At home, he said his government would work to strengthen unity and would act quickly to lessen the effects of the drought which Jordan is experiencing.

Of the sixty deputies in the Chamber, one voted against the confidence motion -- 11 were absent, and the remaining 48 voted for the motion.

The new government was formed on 26th May.
