  • Description

The exhibition was opened by the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economy Dr. Westrick.

931 industrial firms - 315 firms from Berlin; 479 from the Federal Republic; 137 from abroad, as well as 49 government authorities, trade groups and export associations from 10 different countries - are taking part in the INTERBAU Industrial Fair.

A covered exhibition area of 50000 square metres, comprising 14 exhibition halls and 9 pavilions, as well as an open-air exhibition area of 125000 square metres, of which approximately 50000 square metres are being used, are at the disposal of the exhibitors.

The wood-working industry, as the largest exhibitor's group represented, is displaying in a total area of 8,600 square metres. Second in size for its display is the electrical industry with an area of 8000 square metres.

The British Pavilion Display was officially inaugurated by Mr J.A.M Majoribanks, C.M.G., Minister (Econ) at the British Embassy, Bonn.

The emphasis of the British exhibits is on British designed buildings in Great Britain and throughout the world, with special regard to post-war construction. The theme in the pavilion is "Building for the Future". To illustrate it two fields of activity in which British achievement has been noteworth have been chosen - schools and the New Towns like Crawley in Sussex.

Foreign countries are making notable contributions to the Fair. "America Builds" is an instructive show on architecture and building methods of the future. France stresses her interest in trade relations by sending 20 well-known machine building and building materials suppliers. Belgium and Italy call the visitors' attention to interior decorating and furnishing of flats and Canada is displaying the furnishing of an entire house. The Dutch deal with what is their perennial problem of dike and bridge building. Austria takes the opportunity to point to the many tangible examples giving factual proof of the capacity of her building industry.

Interbau Berlin not only has to fulfil tasks on a commercial level. It is also intended to stimulate discussion on topical problems, on town planning and on present day living. The international and national displays and events will provide the proper basis for such discussions.
