  • Description

Zaire Prime Minister Mpinga Kasenda has been visiting Senegal. Last week, accompanied by his wife, he spent four days in and around Dakar, where he held talks with government minister, met President Leopold Senghor and visited various industrial enterprises.

SYNOPSIS: Senegal's Prime Minister Abdou Diouf and his wife were at Dakar airport to greet Monsieur and Madame Kasenda on their arrival. The Zaire Prime Minister is no stranger to Senegal -- this was his third visit -- he has been twice before to attend Socialist Party Congress meetings.

After the welcoming ceremonies Monsieur Kasenda left the airport to attend official talks.

These took place at a government building in Dakar. Shortly after his arrival Monsieur Kasenda said that the purpose of his visit was to "revitalise" co-operation between Zaire and Senegal. Following a visit by Senegal's President Leopold Senghor to Zaire in 1960, the two countries signed a friendship and co-operation treaty which has been in operation ever since.

On the third day of his visit Monsieur Kasenda went to the Presidential Palace for a meeting with President Senghor. This occasion also marked a high-spot of the Zaire Prime Minister's visit -- when President Senghor made him a member of Senegal's Order of Merit. During the ceremony the Senegalese President invested Monsieur Kasenda with the Grand Cross of the Order and other insignia. Later the Zairean delegation held further talks with government officials and visited an industrial complex.

To round off four days of activity the Zairean delegation visited the Sotiba factory. While in Dakar Monsieur Kasenda described relations between Zaire and Senegal as "excellent" and said that ways of expanding them were under consideration.
