Background: Eighty-year-old US General Douglas MacArthur left Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, USA, April 4, after 63 days surgery - his prostate gland was removed. Accompanied by his wife he returned to his Waldorf Towers apartment - to watch baseball on television.
Before entering hospital General MacArthur told friends - "I do not plan to die", and he made his promise good. Well-wishers at the hospital exit heard him say to reporters, "I'm glad to be back in circulation...I feel very much like a modern Lazarus, whose resurrection is due to the extraordinary skill of Dr. Slaughter and his able assistants."
