    Zambia's Foreign Minister Vernon Mwaanga returned to Lusaka on Saturday (21 December) after a 12-nation tour to brief African leaders on the recent Rhodesian talks.

    The talks - between Presidents Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, Sir Seretse Khama of Botswana and Rhodesian Nationalist leaders - were held in Lusaka.

    Mr. Mwaanga, acting as envoy for the three President,s said they felt that African leaders should be briefed on the outcome of the talks because they were difficult and delicate.

    He said the Presidents were not negotiating with the Rhodesian regime. Only the people of Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) had the right to do so, he added.
